Everything was well done, the ease of booking, confirmation and support materials, tour guide & bus driver, time spent in locations and information shared were all excellent. This was my first tour with CIE and my first bus tour, there were so many things that I imagined that might have gone wrong. None of them happened, I highly recommend CIE for creating such a wonderful experience.

Easy; agent was professional, answered my questions.

Good but would have been easier to book through a New Zealand agent

Informative and accurate about trip and expectations. Great hotels and excursions Very knowledgeable tour guide and driver who were both very friendly, professional and helpful.

The tour was well organized. The accommodations were exceptional and the food was fabulous. Our tour director was knowledgeable and had a great sense of humor. The sights were amazing. I would book with CIE again and have recommended them to my friends.

Knowledgeable tour guide. Friendly and skilled bus driver

Trip:

The hotels were very good. The driver was pleasant. The guide was fine although he seemed a little preoccupied and didn’t offer an over abundance of information or stories. Everything was fine but the last day seem to unravel. We gathered for a group picture at the base of Edinburgh castle and that was the last we saw of Gordon. I had to track him down to tip and also my daughter and I did not get a copy of the group photo as he did not have it or remind me to pick it up. In the confusion it was left behind.

The tour destinations were all very beautiful, fun and interesting! Our tour guide was super knowledgeable about the land and enriched the experience. He also went out of his was to help all of the passengers with any issues. I would definitely recommend CIE tours to friends and family.

Trip:
Service:
CIE was recommended to me by friends as well by the travel agent who helped me. Everything was excellent, the personnel - tour guide and driver - the hotels as well as the meals (never knew you can eat that well in Scotland), the different locations we were shown. The tour guide gave great information but never too much, played lovely, local music but not incessantly. It was a wonderful experience and even the weather was perfect. I hope to take another trip with CIE next year.

Well we went through a travel agent so we didn’t deal directly with their booking agents.

Trip:

Our guide was terrific. The food was very good and the accommodations were great

Trip:
Service:
Very easy to book and all of our questions were answered.

Trip:
Service:
A. The booking service worked very well, with three exceptions. 1. Although American Airlines is a partner with Alaska Airlines (where we have our mileage accounts) Alaska Airlines would not give us credit for the miles because we did not make our American Airlines reservations (US to Scotland and return) through Alaska Airlines. 2. The two extra nights at the Holyrood hotel in Edinburgh were not billed as advertised, but at a much higher rate. We spoke to the manager of the hotel, and he did provide a limited discount, but the billing was much more than we had anticipated. 3. The individual hired to narrate the tour at Edinburgh Castle was a bit too talkative and the microphone and headsets did not work. The narration was informative to a degree but included information not specific to the castle, leaving little time to ask clarifying questions or to fully appreciate the views and history. B. We enjoyed the trip very much. The success of the trip for us was primarily due to a few factors. 1. Our tour guide, Gordon Tait, was outstanding. His knowledge of the history of Scotland allowed us to fully understand the historic significance of the places we visited. And, his understanding of the transportation system allowed us to continue the tour when the ferry to Skye were unable to travel due to weather conditions. 2. Our driver, Mervyn, did a wonderful job of driving through the cities and the single carriage lane roads at times. 3. The hotels and food arrangements were wonderful. C. Question. During the trip to Edinburgh Castle, a group photo was taken. We have not received a copy of the photo. Is there a way to order a copy of the photo?

We had a wonderful tour and the whole experience was more than what we expected. It all began with the outstanding service by our tour booking agent. Our questions were fully answered and we were kept informed about our upcoming tour on a regular schedule. Our tour guide was a perfect. We had very nice hotels and the meals and service was first rate. We did not even mind the time on the tour bus because there was so much to see and the commentary from our guide was very informative. We made many good friends on our tour and will remain in touch with them for years to come. How many times can we say "wonderful!!!"

Regarding the booking service, I do not feel that our needs were handled in the best possible manner. The CIE Rep indicated that we could either purchase our tickets for the flights on our own OR we could allow CIE to purchase the flight tickets for us. I felt that CIE may be able to get us a better price on plane tickets so I opted to have them handle our flights. I booked the trip and made complete payment approx 6 weeks prior to departure. After receiving flight information via email from CIE shortly after that I noticed that seating selections had not been assigned. I called CIE right away and asked about seating selection. I was told that I could go online and make the selections. So I went online and attempted to make seat selections. I was able to make a seat selection for the 1st of four flights without issue, however for all of the other flights the seats that were shown as available ALL had an additional charge of anywhere from 49 to 125 English pounds each! This was in addition to what we had paid for the flight. I did not choose a seat selection. I called CIE tours and explained to them what I had encountered. They then told me that I could just allow them to choose the seating for us at no additional cost. So I left the seating assignments to them. Consequently we did know our seat assignments until we got to our first flight in Boston, MA. We then learned that for our flight overseas from Philadelphia, PA to Glasgow, Scotland my spouse and I had been assigned seats in 2 different rows and each of us had been assigned a middle seat ! This was on an American Airlines flight in a narrow bodied jet (3 seats each) beside one aisle. To me this was a jet that you would normally see for a regional shuttle but NOT for an overseas flight of 6 hours or more. Think about how you would feel knowing that you had been assigned a middle seat in a different row than your spouse! Fortunately we got it straightened out at the airport and ended up getting reassigned to two seats in the same row. Another issue regarding the booking service is that I told them that I wanted to extend my trip by one day in the city where our tour ended (Edinburgh, Scotland). They acknowledged and I "assumed" (my mistake) that they would take care of booking me for an additional day in the last hotel we would be in . . . OR ask me if I had any other preferences for lodging for that last day. Instead, none of this had been done and I ended up having to check with the hotel staff to see if they had availability for us for another day. Fortunately the CIE Tour Guide helped us with this and saved us approx $52. off of the normal daily room rate. Our CIE Tour Guide (Christianne) was EXCELLENT ! I cannot say enough Good things about her! Our trip began in the U.S. at approx 11:30 a.m. EST. When our flight arrived in Scotland the local time there was approximately 7:30 a.m. To us it was approx 2:00 a.m. EST. Upon arrival at the airport in Glasgow we then had to wait at the airport until a number of other people arrived from various places on other flights. This was so that CIE 's passengers could then be transported from the airport to the hotel in Glasgow all at once on one bus. By the time we reached the hotel it was approx 9:30 a.m. local time. It was then that we learned that normal check-in time for the hotel was 3:00 p.m. For us this was feeling like 9:00 a.m. the following day from when he had began our trip. We did finally get the otel to allow us to check in at approx 12 Noon local time. We retired to our room for approx 2 hours and then had to regroup to meet the rest of the tour group for a tour of the city of Glasgow. I am gad that we did make it to the bus for the tour of Glasgow because it was FANTASTIC . . . as was the rest of the trip ! So what I would tell you (CIE) . . . . IS THAT THE PEOPLE WHO MANAGE YOUR COMPANY are NOT the people that make your trips great. The people who made our trip WONDERFUL was our Tour Guide, Christianne, and our Bus Driver (Declan). From then on our trip was just Wonderful. For your credit I will say that the Itinerary and the choices for hotels is Very Good. And I would do it again. I think your company could do a number of things differently and much better pertaining to some of the things that I mentioned. Many of your clients are retirees and your planning and scheduling does not seem to take into account what a long trip overseas for senior citizens does to them. I also would like to say that our return flight from London to Boston with British Airways was MUCH MUCH better than our experience with American Airlines. I will purposely strive to never fly with American Airlines again. Please feel free to contact me if you have any other questions.

Ian was an exceptional guide. He knows the history very well and explained everything in great detail. He made the history come alive! Sam was an awesome driver too. He was very helpful. My only wish is that we could have stayed longer in each location.

Trip:
Service:
Easy to book, lots of information provided, though we were close to leaving when info arrived. We were told there were mailing issues, and were reassured all was set. It was and we had no issue in travel going froward.

Very easy to book directly with CIE...actually I prefer booking with CIE rather than a travel agent because then I had access directly to my booking Enjoyed the itinerary... the guide and bus driver were very good and well-organized.

Pat the tour guide and Richard the driver were absolutely fantastic! They made the trip! Scotland is beautiful and the places we visited were lovely, but the trip wouldn't have been the same without them!! I would definitely recommend CIE Tours again!

Trip:
Service:
I had a travel agent set up my tour for me. When there was a change of hotels, they let the agent and myself know by email. And the replacement hotel was amazing!!

Trip:

The tour was great. Refine, our guide, is extremely friendly and knowledgeable. She was always available to answer questions and help in any way. Our driver, Raymon, was equally wonderful.

Trip:

Same guide from beginning to end of tour and he was excellent. All accommodations were very good.

Trip:
Service:
They do a good job. Don't have to worry about your luggage . The bus is comfortable and like that they move you around. I like that all the excursions are include so you don't have to keep up with tickets. All hotels were very nice. Having most meals included is a plus and we enjoy the free time we get too.

Trip:
Service:
We used a local agent in NC. All went smoothly.

Trip:
Service:
Every part of the booking experience and tour far surpassed my expectation. All you have to do is give them your information ... pay your fee and they take care of everything! Excellent phone etiquette!

Trip:
Service:
Ray and Ian were fabulous tour guides. They were entertaining and engaging, and they were resourceful, when necessary. The accommodations were lovely, and the food was fabulous. Great trip!

Trip:
Service:
Good itinerary and good guide. I would use them again. A major problem was that when we arrived late at the Glasgow airport, because of a flight delay (a flight that they booked for us), no one was at the airport to meet us or direct us to how to get to the tour. A major problem in a foreign country, especially when the hotel we were to stay in that night was in Loch Lomond, a long distance out of town, and we had no transportation.

Trip:
Service:
Booking was a little awkward dealing with a broker not CIE directly. Not sure who to communicate with.

Trip:
Service:
Booking was fine. Our travel agent took care of this for us.

Trip:
Service:
I booked with my travel agent. But we had many questions and everytime we wrote directly to CIE and always had a quick response. The trip was excellent and the fact that our bus was always the first everywhere we went we never had lineup. The weather was excellenct 17 days in the UK and no rain this made it wonderful although something no one can control.

It was an awesome experience right from my initial contact with the company. They made the booking experience very easy and quickly responded to all my questions. Excellent experience and would not hesitate to book with them again

This was my third CIE tour and I have recommended the company to others. Always booked through same travel company. There were some itinerary glitches that I noticed and was able to address by changing tour dates. Because of high season and other issues tour still had issues. Overall though it was great.

We loved everything about this tour. Our guide Ian was wonderful. The hotels, meals and places we went to in Scotland were fabulous. I enjoyed traveling through the countryside and seeing many of the places I had always wanted to visit. Ian was able to supply a great deal of interesting information about what we were seeing, and the whole trip exceeded my expectations.

It was a great tour. But, I was a bit nervous several times after we booked and before we left because there was absolutely no communication from them for months. I'd suggest that CIE follows the Viking Cruises model and set up some sort of automatic, "It's only 3 months until you go!" kind of email that is sent every month of so. That was literally my only concern in the whole process.

The trip was great and our driver and tour guide was excellent. We would have liked less time in pitlockary more in St. Andrews but all in all we had a great time

The tour was terrific - guide, bus driver, sights seen, organization, comfort, detail sharing - was all top shelf. However... a big however, the booking people were frankly incompetent - one of my flights was cancelled, I was ill -advised on my rebooking - I had purchased the insurance, sent in all my info for a refund for transfers etc - never got any type of acknowledgement - beware of the New York office -
