Croatia & Adriatic Cruise from Zagreb to Split & Dubrovnik 10 Days/9 Nights ~ K226

B: Breakfast; L: Lunch; D: Dinner

Day 1Arrive Zagreb, Thursday

You will be met at the airport and transferred to your hotel. The balance of the day is at leisure. Dinner and overnight. (D)

Day 2In Zagreb, Friday

A morning sightseeing tour will take you through the historic Upper Town. See St. Mark’s Church, St. Catherine’s Church, the Cathedral, Parliament, and the Government Palace. The rest of the day is yours to explore the winding streets of the old town at your own pace or perhaps take an optional excursion into the countryside. (B)

Day 3Zagreb – Plitvice Lakes – Split, Saturday

Head south for a visit to magnificent Plitvice Lakes National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Enjoy the breathtaking scenery of this natural wonder with its 16 terraced lakes surrounded by forested mountains and lush vegetation. A walking tour takes you around several of the lower lakes. On to Split and the port to embark on your boat. Later, gather with your fellow “sailors” for a Welcome Reception on board followed by dinner. (B, D)

Day 4Split – Bol – Stari Grad, Sunday

Morning guided walking tour of Split shows us the historic inner city, built around the Roman Emperor Diocletian’s Palace, a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site. See the remnants of Split’s Roman heritage, its Renaissance and Gothic structures, Jupiter’s Temple, the Peristyle, and the Cathedral. Set sail towards Bol, a small town on Island Brac, for a swim at the Golden Horn. Enjoy the 1740-foot-long golden pebble beach, said to be the best in Croatia. It is unique in that it changes shape and position depending on the winds. Afterwards head to Hvar, one of the most popular islands in the Adriatic and a meeting point for the international jet-set. The “Croatian Madeira” is also one of the longest islands stretching along the shores of Croatia. Spend evening and night at Stari Grad, one of the oldest towns in Europe. (B, L)

Day 5Stari Grad – Hvar – Vis, Monday

Quick sail towards town of Hvar for a sightseeing tour featuring the first public theatre in Europe (older than Shakespeare’s theatre in the UK), the Franciscan Monastery and many more historical sights. Cruise towards Island of Vis. The town Vis, the antique Issa, was founded around 397 B.C. Our tour of Vis features the town’s waterfront. Evening at leisure. (B, L)

Day 6Vis – Vela Luka, Tuesday

After breakfast set sail for Korcula Island, thought to be the birthplace of the famous explorer Marco Polo. Our port of call for the day is Vela Luka (the “big harbor”) town, dating back to pre-historic times. After lunch onboard, disembark in Vela Luka and depart for an afternoon ‘Korcula island tour’, featuring the visit of the olive oil factory, Barilo ethno museum and local winery to taste some local wine and cheese. Return to your ship, for evening at leisure. (B, L)

Day 7Vela Luka – Korcula, Wednesday

There will be some time for swimming before we continue our cruise, heading for Korcula town. Take a walking tour through its narrow, cobbled streets and visit the majestic Gothic Baroque Cathedral of St. Mark. Your evening is free to discover the town and enjoy dinner on your own at one of many local restaurants. (B, L)

Day 8Korcula – Mljet, Thursday

Today we set sail for Mljet Island. Mljet National Park encompasses five types of forest, many species of birds, and two deep lakes, Veliko Jezero (Big Lake) and Malo Jezero (Small Lake). This lovely island was supposedly a favorite holiday spot for the Greek hero Ulysses! Captain’s dinner with live entertainment aboard our ship tonight. (B, L, D)

Day 9Mljet – Dubrovnik, Friday

In the morning sail to Dubrovnik, so called “Pearl of Adriatic,” a UNESCO World Heritage site. While in Dubrovnik, take a walking tour of the old town and visit the Rector’s Palace and Franciscan Monastery with its Pharmacy. Remainder of the day is free; perhaps discover this lovely city on own or enjoy last minute souvenir shopping. (B, L)

Day 10Depart Dubrovnik, Saturday

Disembark after breakfast. You will be transferred to Dubrovnik airport for your flight home. (B)

Well organized. Excellent itinerary and tour guides.

It was really Kompas, not CIE. CIE was only a broker. However, they did send me a nice backpack, and I did appreciate that.

. It was a well organized tour. The tour director and guides were very good. The places where he visited were beautiful. I will be traveling again and will recommend to others to travel with CIE TOURS.

Organization by tour guide Margareta was excellent. All transportation, hotel arrangements and food were as promised. Ginadi, the local guide in Moscow, was very good and informative and he showed his love for the City. As far as Hermitage Museum is St. Petersburg I would limit the number of art rooms (Impressionist Artists) so as to spend more time and learn somethng about the paintings. We were "hered through the museum at a speed leaving us with just the names of the painters whose paintings were dsplayed.

Very accommodating with obtaining the letter needed to apply for our Visa and working with us on our flight arrangements.

The booking service was very good, but I was disappointed that I could not get the military and the booking discount at the same time What's the use of honoring your military service if you can not obtain both.

Great and easy. The booking person even got my airfare for me.

We enjoyed the tour very much. Our tour director Ilya was outstanding. The hotels we stayed in were first-rate, as were the provided meals. The only negatives were that our tour of the Hermitage in Saint Petersburg did not include the Gold Room but spent about 3 hours to see French paintings. I can see those in Paris. One other minor thing is that the brochure says the bus will have WI-FI but our bus did not. Also be aware that without booking many optional tours you will potentially miss out on important sights like Peterhof, unless you make your own arrangements to see them. Overall, I thought the tour provided good quality and value.

There was a little confusion as to availability of tours but finally found one we could do

The company was great when booking the trip but afterwards wasn't too responsive to outreach with questions. Would have appreciated a more detailed schedule with times so we could plan ahead for free time. There was confusion about our schedule with our tour manager. In addition, we didn't know we'd have a tour manager and not a guide so we weren't prepared for additional tips for tour guides at our various stops.

We loved the Kompas tour from Prague to Vienna to Budapest. No issues there. But the reason I'm only giving 4 stars, instead of 5, is because of a glitch in CIE's tour registration process. I "signed up" on line for our tour in October 2018. The online booking webpages offered the option of adding a "pre-tour" night and a "post-tour" night at the Prague and Budapest hotels, respectively. I requested both those options because they fit well with our plan to fly from Ljubljana, Slovenia, to Prague for the start of the tour and then to take an intercity bus back to Ljubljana from Budapest after the tour. When I spoke with CIE representatives in October (to pay the deposit due and to remove the trip insurance option from the reservations) and again in March, 2019 (to pay the balance due on the tour reservation), I specifically asked about additional charges for the "pre" and "post" nights. The CIE reps apparently did not know how to handle these tour options and told me there was no additional fee. HOWEVER, at some point after I paid the balance due on the tour in March 2019, the "pre" and "post" nights" got dropped from our reservation--presumably because Kompas had not received payment for the optional nights. I did not discover this change until I finally received the lodging vouchers via special request two nights before we were due to land in Prague. I appreciate that CIE/Kompas did respond to my queries on this by offering an option for adding a "pre" night at the Angelo by Vienna House in Prague and the original hotel in Budapest (not the one we actually stayed in for the tour). But the prices for those two nights were exorbitant (not surprising, given the timing). Instead, I arranged less expensive bookings via on my own, the night before we left Ljubljana. Bottom line: I think the retail reservation processing interface between CIE and Kompas needs a careful inspection and improvement. I may be mistaken, but my hunch is that, if I had booked directly with Kompas for the tour, the charges for the pre and post nights would have been presented at the time of the initial reservation, and I would not have been left scrambling for rooms at the last minute before our tour started. If the nature of the problem is not clear from my description above, feel free to contact me at for details and/or documentation.

Find my first note. Cie should tell tourist that your tour will be with compass and not cie tours. And tell them that the tour will have free time daily to do your on tour in the afternoon and most evening s. Maybe I would have chosen a different kind of tour for Europe. And I thought that would do all of the extra excursions but the group was small and I only could do few. That was disappointing. I wanted to be busy. I really enjoyed the Ireland tour and have brag about it. Now I tell people to read very careful ly. Before booking a tour .

Tour guide gave us a good impression as the touring schedule was running smooth and on schedule. However, a small disappointed to the hotels that some of them was only 3-star (not 4-star as promised).

We reserved thru Touring for Less and were happy with them. The only problem in booking was having to wait so long for the tour to be guaranteed and wondering if we were going to have to find something else as we had our plane booked. I realize that Italy is a new tour for you but we booked 6 months out and the tour was not guaranteed until about 6 weeks before.
