Flying Boats, Cliffs of Moher and a Medieval Banquet!

Date: June 16, 2017

Today was a big day! We departed Dingle, unfortunately, but were very excited for what the day had in store for us. The first excursion of the day was the Foynes Flying Boat Museum, where we learned all about the magnificent flying boats and their history. After watching a short but interesting film, we followed a guided tour through the museum, looking at artifacts from the flying boats' flights and diagrams explaining the contraptions.

Once again, we bid a sad goodbye to another great town as we left Kinsale. We could have stayed in the Actons Hotel forever. The food at the hotel was outstanding. I had the goat cheese tart and the ravioli... I could eat both of those dishes every day for a year and never get tired of them.

The Southern Gems tour of Ireland is off to a great start. Yesterday morning, we left the modern and very accommodating Gibson Hotel in Dublin to visit Russborough House in Wicklow. We met up with a very knowledgeable guide who brought us through the mansion, shedding light on the rich history, as well as more recent events associated with the family who once resided there. In each room, the items within were explained in great detail through captivating stories and explanations of their uses and worth.

I have just had an incredible day! We left the beautiful Culloden Hotel and Estate this morning after a tasty breakfast. We then travelled toward Giants Causeway via the most gorgeous route. We drove along the Nine Glens of Antrim, which offers views of vibrant green rolling hills, as well as a rugged coastline. The ride was very enjoyable and went by almost too quickly.

I never knew so much could happen in four days! My first week with CIE has come and gone and every day I fall more and more in love with the new people, the new places, and the plethora of new experiences. In the past four days we have enjoyed three different countries, stopping along the way at beautiful and fun places that I never even thought I'd ever get the chance to see.
